Trunk Show

Connie Peters gave a trunk show on Saturday at the quilt show.  This cathedral window quilt was the first quilt she made.

The cathedral window quilt design gets its name from the colorful, window like openings in the fabric. When held up to the light, the pattern created a stained glass window effect.Traditionally, the background squares were made from white muslin and colorful calico chosen for the windows. The quilt comprises a series of arcs and diamonds created from folding square pieces of fabric. The quilt does not have batting, lining or any traditional quilt stitches. Because cathedral window quilts have layers of fabric, they can be heavy for their size.

Connie thought her quilt weighed 14 pounds.
Connie likes to purchase unfinished quilt tops and finish them.  I think this block is called Overall Andy.  Click here to see the applique pattern.

The 20th Century Dresden Plate Quilt

The Dresden Plate quilt pattern was one of the most popular quilts made during the 1920s and 30s. It was first published in the 20s but not always under the name Dresden Plate. Grandmother's Sunburst, Friendship Ring, Aster, Dahlia and Sunflower are some of the names it was published under.
Connie took a quilt apart to create this gorgeous quilt.
Here are some of the quilts Connie showed at the truck show.  The are truly amazing and all hand quilted.
